About the East Mountain Area . . .

Drive east from Albuquerque on Interstate 40 through "the canyon" and you are in the East Mountain Area. The distance is only a few miles, but the scenery changes dramatically. From the flat, high desert rock and cactus surroundings that characterize much of the Albuquerque area you will find yourself in very hilly, very green surroundings that are characterized by an abundance of juniper, pinon and ponderosa pines.

The drive also involves climbing from an average elevation in Albuquerque of about 5200 feet above sea level to an average elevation in excess of 6500 feet. As a result, temperatures average 5 to 10 degrees cooler than in Albuquerque.

Lots of trees and cooler temperatures are not the only differences. The East Mountain Area is definitely "in the country" rather than "in the city". Look around and you will see forested hillsides and houses that are farther apart than in Albuquerque. The hillsides will stay that way because much of what you see is National Forest, and the houses will stay far apart because most of the building lots are two acres or larger.

Southwestern Style and Spectacular Views

The East Mountain Area is a little over 300 square miles in size with a population of over 30,000 people - and growing. Several schools are located in the East Mountain Area and an excellent network of school buses makes traveling to and from school easy. East Mountain businesses are able to meet most of your day-to-day shopping needs, and Albuquerque is only a few minutes away. There are several good restaurants, lots of open space for hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc., and a ski area that you can drive to in 20 minutes.

If you like the idea of trees, views and lots of open space within a few minutes of Albuquerque, come and take a look at the East Mountain Area. You will see why many people have chosen the East Mountain Area for their homes.
